Silverton Mountain Back Country Camp
Late February camp and March 8th -11th 2018
Silverton Mountain the Mecca for off piste skiing in North America
This ski area served by one lift is the highest and steepest ski area in North America with peak elevations of 13,487 feet, and with no easy way down. Besides avalanche mitigation work, the mountain is left in its natural state with no cut runs. The base lies at 10,400’ with a single lift dropping you off at 12,300’. The chairlift takes you to the top of a beautiful cirque which provides easy hiking along a ridge to access terrain that can total 3,000’ vertical drop in a single run.
With less than 200 people allowed on the mountain each day, the 1,819 acres offers amazing descents in every direction. There are bowls, chutes, cliffs and wonderful natural terrain features to be discovered everywhere you look.
Snowperformance is running its first camps at Silverton, guided by the expert Silverton guides while offering coaching and tactics from Gavin, Laura Le Blanc and Chris Perry, both with huge back country experience and outstanding coaches. We are offering a package with accommodation at the Grand Imperial Hotel in the classic historic mining town of Silverton which offers a great selection of restaurants and bars, stores and history.
You must be in good physical shape and a fairly strong off groomed skier to participate in these camps they will include a moderate amount of climbing and skinning at high altitude, all terrain is variable off groomed often steep conditions.
All guests will be carrying full avalanche safety gear throughout this camp.
