Gulmarg is a small isolated hill-village situated in the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir at the western extremity of the Himalayas. It is 35 miles from Srinagar, the state capital.
Gulmarg gets some of the heaviest snowfalls in the Himalayas and skiing was first introduced to Gulmarg in 1927. However 5 years ago a 4500 foot vertical rise Poma gondola was erected opening up the incredible terrain available today.
From
the top station a 30 minute walk will
take you to Mt Apharwat's 4124 metre
peak from where it is possible to glide
for over a couple of kilometres in
either direction along Apharwat's high
Northwest and Southeast shoulders,
before descending the mountain's
multiple ridges, faces and bowls. From
the Northwest shoulder this includes
magnificent and consistent advanced
slopes
to distant parts of the Gulmarg meadow.
with decents of up to 7000 feet
available!
